 Known Limitations or Problems with Current Release

• CCX support cannot run properly in a multi-adapter configuration
• The number of agents that are managing the network are growing (WZC for MSFT, BRCM Tray from Broadcom, BRCM Tray for LEAP in XP, third party WPA supplicants). It should be noted in general (and is detailed for CCX below) that running multiple agents can cause confusion for the subsytem as well as end users.
• To configure CCX/LEAP support using the control panel (when WZC is managing the network) execute the following steps:
  In the Broadcom control panel:
  1) Add the network to the LEAP configuration page with appropriate username and password.
  
  In the Wireless Zero Config control panel:
  1) Disable 802.1x.
  2) Enable WEP.
  3) Uncheck the box that says "The key is provided for me automatically".
  4) Provide a WEP key. The key can be anything at all and it can be at any wep key index. The key is not used other than to prevent zero config from disassociating your network.
  5) Click OK
• If WZC is managing the network and the user is running CCX/LEAP, once CCX/LEAP is configured, if a user goes back to the "Wireless Networks" page and clicks OK, the CCX/LEAP configuration gets modified. Clicking OK causes WZC to repeat the initial system configuration, sets the infrastructure mode, and all of the dynamically assigned keys get cleared. The system eventually recovers. In the interim, all communication is lost.
• In Chinese and Japanese versions of Windows, installing an unsigned driver will result in bcmwl5.sys to not getting updated. This is not an issue as long as the driver is signed.

• In releases prior to 3.10.39.0, when an AP in a BSS network enables g-protection via Info Element 47, throughput will be very low. Connectivity is still enabled so that a user may upgrade to a later driver.
• Broadcom Reference software includes a loose binding in the .inf file. It will bind to any adapter with the Broadcom vendor and device id. If you do not remove it, or further qualify it with a sub-vendor and sub-device ID, that driver will load on any vendor's hardware.
• Users should be made aware of how to properly use InstallShield. For optimal ease of installation
  • Run the InstallShield executable prior to hardware installation:
  • After InstallShield finishes, shut down the system
  • Install the 802.11b network interface card
  • Turn on system
  • Prior to getting WHQL approved .cat files you will want to be aware of the following steps during system bootup:
  • For WinXP:
    • Make use of all defaults in the New Hardware Wizard (select next and yes).
  • For Win2K:
    • Select next twice
    • Ensure that all check boxes are unchecked
    • Select next twice
    • At the digital signature warning screen hit next
    • Select finish
• To cleanly uninstall, users should be made aware of the application layer uninstall as opposed to uninstalling a device in the driver configuration tab (Properties:Configure:Driver:Uninstall). Users should follow the InstallShield uninstall procedure:
  • Click on Start Menu
  • Select the Control Panel
  • Select Add or Remove Programs
  • Select BRCM 802.11 Wireless Card (or your proper device string from the .inf file)
  • Select Change/Remove
  • Select OK
• When installing in a system that has never run the driver before, simply use the normal driver installation once the hardware is detected.
• There are some special instructions to be followed to obtain passing WHQL results:
  • When running WHQL tests, be sure to remove the Tray Applet.
  • As per MSFT WHQL guidelines, warnings will not prevent attaining a logo.
